Does scalp micropigmentation hurt?
For most clients who undergo SMP, the pain is significantly less to a traditional tattoo. Pain tolerance varies with each client and many feel a slight tingle, some even fall asleep! That being said your health and safety is our priority and we will ensure the process goes as smooth as possible.
Why is SMP more comfortable than a traditional tattoo?
Traditional tattoos inject ink deep into the dermis layer of the skin. SMP only deposits pigment into the very upper layer of the dermis, avoiding the deeper nerve endings.
We use specialised, micro-fine needles designed specifically to mimic individual hair follicles, rather than the thicker needles used for standard body art.
SMP involves precise, individual micro-dots. We do not drag the needle across your skin to create long lines or heavy shading.
What to expect?
Some areas of the scalp can be slightly more sensitive than others—the hairline and temples tend to have a few more nerve endings than the crown. However, the sensation is entirely manageable and typically described as a mild annoyance rather than actual pain.
We maintain a relaxed, zero-stress environment, pace the session to your comfort level, and are happy to take breaks whenever you need them to ensure the entire process goes smoothly.
